Practice History

Dr. Newsom is the founder and leader of our ophthalmology practice. Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology, Dr. Newsom brings a wealth of experience and research to Newsom Eye. He established Newsom Eye in 2001, and has since grown the practice to include three clinical locations: Sebring, Avon Park and Tampa; and two surgical centers in Sebring and in Tampa. Through expansion, Newsom Eye has been able to reach more patients without sacrificing the “small practice” feel in regard to patient care.

Over the years, Dr. Newsom has been hand-selected to participate in the research involved to get FDA approval of new and improved technologies. In 2004, OASIS Medical selected Dr. Newsom to take part in the 2004 FDA Study of VISCO SHIELD^®. Then in 2009, Lenstec chose to have him participate in their FDA Study of the Softec HD^TM Intraocular Lens. In April 2010, this lens was approved by the FDA for treating patients with cataracts. Here at Newsom Eye, we appreciate the ever-changing technologies that are produced by research. These studies give us the opportunity to offer our patients updated technologies before anyone else.
