How Lasik Corrects Your Vision
|
There are a lot of people who dream about waking up in the morning and being able to see before they put on their glasses. If this is a dream of yours, and you would like more information about the safety of Lasik surgery and how it works, read on.
What is Lasik? Lasik is an acronym for Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis. In short, this actually means "to shape the cornea from within." The name refers to the use of a laser to reshape the corneawithout invading the adjacent cell layers. In situ is Greek for "in the natural or normal place." Medically, in situ means "confine to the site of origin without invasion of neighboring tissues." Kerato is the Greek word for cornea and mileusis means "to shape." Your cornea is reshaped so that light rays focus more precisely on the retina, thus reducing or eliminating refractive errors.
